Horticulture
At Agape Family Ministry we provide a class
which teaches horticulture and garden design. There are 5 parts to this course. We teach the germination, care and maintenance of seedlings of flowers, herbs and vegetables.
The flowers are utilized in our course on garden design with each student responsible for her own garden box. In this course students are graded on their participation and upkeep of their garden box. These students are required to grow a variety of herbs from seedlings while learning the various uses of each.
Also incorporated into this course is knowledge on growing vegetables, both organically and traditionally. They are taught about garden pests and diseases, and how to handle these elements of gardening. We also teach the many ways to grow plants from cuttings, and from their natural seeds, such as the many types of palms and other seed barring trees or shrubs.
This class also teaches the care and nurturing of orchids. The students log all information of their daily tasks and upkeep of their gardens and plants. This teaches organization, data gathering and resource information, and helps them to track the needs and developments of their gardens and plants.
