  Mommy & Me

Agape Family Ministries has implemented a Mother and Child Addiction and Reunification Program (AMCARP) in order to meet the urgent demands their families to strengthen the family bond. Agape offers women with small children the opportunity to receive treatment while establishing a healthy bond with their children. In conjunction with regular therapeutic services, the Mommies and me program offers extensive parenting training and support. It is an unfortunate fact that parenting skills are lacking in our society. This problem is exacerbated when the mothers are addicted to substances and are in unhealthy, abusive relationships. AMCARP in attempting to address these needs. AMCARP allows for pregnant women and women who have partial custody with Agape, to have their children on-site with them. Here they receive a myriad of services and hands-on-training. The AMCARP program averages 9-12 months in length. The goals of the program are the following:

  • To provide quality substance abuse treatment;
  • To provide quality education and training to the mothers;
  • To provide a safe, therapeutic environment for mother and child;
  • To reunify families afflicted by substance abuse; and
  • To provide all of these services in a faith-based community

In addition, Agape has made accommodations for mothers whose children are in the care of others while they are in treatment. There are Mommies and Me classes on weekends to foster mother and child interaction, and reestablish the bond that is usually disrupted or severed due to emotional and/or physical separation. Children age 5 and under are allowed to spend weekends with their mothers, and children of all age groups are allowed visitation for several hours on Sundays in order to facilitate strengthening of the Mother/ child bond in a therapeutic environment.

Studies have shown that women who are reunited with their children during treatment are less likely to commit crimes in the future. Also, their children will be less likely to exhibit criminal tendencies. The ultimate goal of AMCARP is to create healthy loving families free from substances.
